This weekend Downtown Laurel will come alive with the rumble and roar of hard working behemoths and powerful machines. The squeals of excitement just might overpower the blaring horns and growling motors as Laurel’s littlest get a rare, up-close view of our city’s most unique and awe-inspiring trucks, emergency vehicles, utility machinery and much more!
Come out this Saturday!
Touch A Truck, presented by Laurel Main Street and the Mississippi Department of Transportation, will be held this Saturday, April 11, in the parking lots along Carrol Gartin Blvd in Downtown Laurel from 9am to 1pm.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for 4 for $15 at the Laurel Welcome Center (First National Bank), the Laurel-Jones County Library, Lee’s Coffee & Tee or from any Laurel Main Street TAT committee member. Tickets will be $5 each at the gate. Touch A Truck t-shirts will be for sale at the event – $20 for adults and $15 for kids.
Have little ones with sensitive hearing? Come out during our special “no horn hour” from 10am to 11am to enjoy the fun without worry!
Food and beverages will be provided by McAlister’s Deli (tea), Sweet Daddy’s Kettle Corn, Landrum’s Country Old Fashioned Ice Cream, Seal’s Concessions (Hamburgers, Hot Dogs Sausage Dogs, Chili Cheese Fries & Coca Cola Products), and local Girl Scouts (cookies).
Enjoy activities prepared by many of our exhibitors as well as train rides, Mr. Silly Socks balloon animals, art projects provided by the JA & LJCL, a child id station by Lori Hearn State Farm and a special story time inside the library at 11am and 1pm.
Trucks will be organized into three categories – Tough & Tactical, Fun & Flashy and Heroes & Helpers. Each group will have workers on hand to educate children about the big jobs their vehicles help them do every day.
Don’t miss a big Touch a Truck favorite – the Baptist Life Flight helicopter will be landing right here in Downtown Laurel for everyone to explore and learn about the vital work this unique machine does for the people of Mississippi.
Parking will be available along Magnolia St, Beacon St, beside the library and throughout Downtown Laurel.
2015 Touch A Truck Facade & Amenities Project

Harrison Pickering
Eagle Scout Candidate
TAT is more than just a fun event – it is the result of a combined community effort to beautify our beloved downtown and the surrounding area. Proceeds from this year’s event will go toward a tree-planting and landscaping project along Carrol Gartin Blvd. With the cooperation of the City of Laurel, The Laurel-Jones County Library, The Junior Auxiliary of Laurel and Eagle Scout candidate Harrison Pickering, this long-awaited project is soon to become a reality.
Harrison Pickering will be on hand during the event to describe the project in detail and to answer questions about his role in selecting the trees and other foliage and how the planting process will be carried out. Be sure to reach out to him to learn more about the Carrol Gartin Blvd project!
