If you’ve been Downtown recently, we’re sure you’ve seen the construction on Leontyne Price Boulevard and Central Avenue. The City of Laurel has contracted out 2 major projects this year to aid in traffic, water and sewer infrastructure, re-pavement, and for the beautification of our Downtown.
Above is a visual conceptualization of the Leontyne Price Corridor project to provide improvements to the Boulevard for entry off the 1-59 interstate, including a new roundabout, turn lane, and more. This project is already underway, as well as the second project further up Central avenue to realign an existing roundabout, repave, and repair infrastructure.
During this construction period, some of the businesses on Central Avenue and Short 7th Avenue are more difficult to access by vehicle. However, they are still open for business! Put on your walking shoes and park at another location Downtown, and make sure to still #shoplocal and #eatlocal at:
Pasta Bella
Sweet Somethings Bakery & Sweet Somethings Bed and Breakfast
Forever Nutrition
The Loft on Central Avenue
Bella Bella
Two a Tee
The Boutique on Central
The Knight Butcher
Office Products
New Look and The Spotted Dog
Bird Dog Café
It’s always important–now more than ever–to support our small, local businesses in the area affected by construction. We’re calling on you to join us in making an effort to walking a few extra steps to eat, shop, and stay on Central and Short 7th Avenues!
If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to The City of Laurel.
Below are 2 flyers with more detailed information released by The City of Laurel in March, 2021. Please be aware that construction dates are always subject to change due to weather or other extenuating circumstances.
Thank you to The City of Laurel for prioritizing important infrastructure under the streets and the beautification and improvement of Downtown Laurel! And of course, thank you to all the locals, and visitors alike, that are supporting all of Laurel even when things don’t look as pretty.
