On Saturday, April 9th, Downtown Laurel will come alive with the rumble and roar of hard working behemoths and powerful machines. The squeals of excitement just might overpower the blaring horns and growling motors as Laurel’s littlest get a rare, up-close view of our city’s most unique and awe-inspiring trucks, emergency vehicles, utility machinery and much more!
Come out this Saturday!
Touch A Truck, presented by Laurel Main Street and our generous sponsors, will be held Saturday, April 9th, in the parking lots along Carrol Gartin Blvd in Downtown Laurel from 9am to 2pm.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for 4 for $15 at the Laurel-Jones County Library or Lee’s Coffee & Tea. Tickets will be $5 each at the gate. Laurel Main Street t-shirts will be for sale at the event – $20 for adults and $15 for kids.
Have little ones with sensitive hearing? Come out during our special “no horn hour” from 10am to 11am or 1pm-2pm to enjoy the fun without worry!
Food and beverages will be provided by McAlister’s Deli (tea) and Laurel Main Street (Hamburgers, Hot Dogs & Coca Cola Products).
Enjoy activities prepared by many of our exhibitors as well as train rides, art projects provided by the Junior Auxiliary & Laurel Jones County Library, and a child ID station by Lori Hearn State Farm.
There will be a large variety of vehicles this year! Trucks will be organized into three categories – Tough & Tactical, Fun & Flashy and Heroes & Helpers. Each group will have workers on hand to educate children about the big jobs their vehicles help them do every day.
Don’t miss a big Touch a Truck favorite – the Baptist Life Flight helicopter will be landing right here in Downtown Laurel for everyone to explore and learn about the vital work this unique machine does for the people of Mississippi.
Parking will be available along Magnolia St, Beacon St, beside the library and throughout Downtown Laurel.
2016 Touch A Truck Light the Downtown Project
TAT is more than just a fun event – it is the result of a combined community effort to beautify our beloved downtown and the surrounding area. Proceeds from this year’s event will go toward lighting our down town. The Light the Downtown Project is a focus to create an immersive experience while shopping downtown. Our merchants have excellent customer service, and we want to extend their hospitality beyond the doorstep. This project will create an attractive, visual environment for patrons while they shop. It will also engage the senses to provide a uniquely southern welcome for those who experience our City Beautiful. The attractiveness of our downtown is important, but this project will also provide a safe and well lit environment for those who live, work, and shop downtown. -Larkin Simpson, EDA
