Important Information

Please note: We only serve tastes — equivalent to about a 2-ounce pour.  Pours will be limited to 1 pour per person, per location.  Wine will only be poured into Laurel Main Street wine tumblers and the tumbler changes each month, so the tasting is $20 each time for the tumbler of the month.

The walkable downtown area is considered a Social District and follows the “to-go cup ordinance” approved by the City of Laurel.  However, open container laws still apply. Please do not bring a cooler or backpack of your favorite beverage. You will be in violation of open container laws.

Effective July 1st 2017, the “to-go cup ordinance” allows dining establishments to offer a to-go cup for patrons who wish to finish their beverage outside of the restaurant or bar.

Here’s What You Need to Know Before You Go

1. Patrons are required to go inside of a restaurant or bar to purchase a beverage.  Leaving the site drink-in-hand is fine — as long as you stay within the boundaries of the social district, which is considered the walkable business district in downtown Laurel.  Maps of the Downtown Social District will be available at downtown businesses and restaurants.
2. To-go cups are issued at the discretion of individual establishments.  The owner, manager, or bartender has the right to refuse a to-go cup to any individual they believe may be in danger of being over-served.
3. Only one (non-glass) container will be issued per person over the age of 21 — sorry, no double fisting!
4. Please finish your beverage before entering another establishment.

How do I get a Laurel Main Street wine tumbler?

The Laurel Main Street tent will be set up at the intersection of Central Ave. and Magnolia St. and will serve as the entry point for the event.  Stop by the tent to purchase your wine tumbler ($15, cash only) and pick up an event map. Don’t forget your ID!  LMS volunteers will check IDs at the event tent.  Only those 21 and older are allowed to purchase wine tumblers. If you forget cash, there are three ATMs downtown: Rasberry Financial, BancorpSouth, and Magnolia State Bank.

Where should I park?

There are several events happening downtown during Wine Down, so we suggest parking on the outskirts of downtown.

What about the kids?

Kids are welcome! Our two downtown parks will also serve as a place for children to enjoy during the festivities.  For the safety of all the children, we ask that they be supervised in the parks and stores.

What if I don’t want wine?

Folks that don’t drink wine or don’t want to participate in the tasting are still welcome! We encourage everyone to come! Beer/Liquor/non-alcoholic drinks can be purchased from several downtown restaurants as well as The 5000, The Knight Butcher, Mimmo’s, Cafe La Fleur, The Loft, Shug’s, Lee’s Coffee & Tea, and Scotsman General Store will also be serving various drinks besides wine.

Where’s the closest restroom?

We will not have any public port-a-potties for this event; however, Shugs, Laurel Mercantile, and Scotsman General Store are generously providing public restrooms for this event.
